Pharmacy Abroad

Pharmacy Abroad offers a unique opportunity for a third year Bachelor of Pharmacy (single or double degree) students to undertake part of their Professional Experience Placement (PEP) overseas.

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences offers study exchange to the following countries:

  • United Kingdom, United States of America and Singapore

Pharmacy Abroad placements can be taken as an alternative to the "Community Pharmacy" placement scheduled to take place in Australia.

Partial funding is provided by the Monash Abroad Office to all students selected for an overseas placement. For details on eligibility and payments of the Monash Abroad grants see travel grants. All applications for the Pharmacy Abroad placement will be automatically considered for the partial funding scheme.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Pharmacy Abroad study program you must:

  • have an active enrolment in the Monash undergraduate degree Bachelor of Pharmacy (either single of double degree)
  • remain enrolled at Monash and receive credit for your overseas study towards your Monash degree
  • have no fee debt owing to Monash University 
  • apply in the second year of study for a placement which will be held in the summer holidays of the third year
  • applicants will only be eligible after successful completion of third year

Selection Criteria

As part of the selection criteria students will need to submit a 'Statement of Purpose' covering the following;

  • why you would like to be an ambassador for the Pharmacy Abroad Program
  • which destinations are of interest to you and why
  • previous ambassador/ leadership experience

Applications must be approximately 500 words.

How to apply

Applications for placements in December/February 2010 are now open to second year pharmacy students.

Applicants must submit the following:

1. Pharmacy Abroad application form
2. Statement of purpose (500 words)
3. One copy of the applicant's bank statement showing account holders name, BSB and account number. Please note that this is the same account the partial funding credited to.

An interview may be required.

Applications can be submitted to Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences reception Sissons building, ground floor.
