International experience in pharmacy: Elective unit

This is a new unit being introduced from 2010. It replaces the Pharmacy Abroad program.

Up to 12 students will be selected to enrol in this unit each year. See below for eligibility, selection criteria and application procedures.

Placement sites will be in the United Kingdom, United States of America, Singapore and Malaysia.

Partial funding is provided by the Monash Abroad Office to all students selected for an overseas placement. For details on eligibility and payments of the Monash Abroad grants see travel grants. All applications for the International experience in pharmacy placement will be automatically considered for the partial funding scheme.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for PAC3532 International experience in pharmacy you must:

  • Apply in the second year of study. The successful applicants will enrol into the unit during the summer holidays between third and fourth year.
  • Applicants will only be eligible to commence the unit after successful completion of all third year units.
  • Have an active enrolment in the Monash undergraduate degree Bachelor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy/Bachelor of Commerce.
  • Remain enrolled at Monash and receive credit for your overseas study towards your Monash degree.
  • Have no fee debt owing to Monash University.

Selection criteria

  • Students must have a minimum 70% average and academic merit will form part of the selection criteria.
  • Submit a 500 word 'Statement of Purpose' covering: 
    • why you would like to be an ambassador for the faculty and participate in this international placement unit
    • which destinations are of interest to you and why
    • previous ambassador/ leadership experience
  • Submit a referee statement.
  • Students may be asked to attend an interview.

How to apply

Applications for the unit that will take place December/February 2011 are now open to second year pharmacy students.

Applicants must submit the following:

1. Pharmacy Abroad application form
2. Statement of purpose (500 words) and reference
3. One copy of the applicant's bank statement showing account holders name, BSB and account number. Please note that this is the same account the partial funding credited to.

An interview may be required.
