Special consideration

If a student feels that their work for an assessment (in-semester or end-of-semester) has been or will be negatively affected by extraordinary circumstances beyond their control, they can apply for special consideration.

In most cases, if the special consideration application is approved, the applicant will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their ability by completing/submitting the relevant assessment at a later date.

Please refer to the Monash University Special Consideration policy and procedures.

Students may apply by submitting either the in-semester special consideration form or the end-of-semester special consideration application form to Student Services within 48 hours (two working days) of the assessment or their last exam.

In-semester applications will be assessed by the relevant unit coordinator(s), but applications should be submitted to Student Services.

End-of-semester applications will be assessed by the Special Consideration Committee in conjunction with the Board of Examiners, and the applicant will be notified of the outcome when semester results are released by the university.

Some important points:

·         It is imperative that strong supporting documentation is included in the application.

·         Students will only be eligible for consideration of assessments for units included in their application.

·         Late applications will only be considered in exceptional circumstances (for example, hospitalisation prevented the student from submitting their application within the stipulated timeframe). Late applications will not be accepted after the results in the unit have been formally published by the university.

·         No mark adjustment will be made under any circumstances.
