3 minute thesis competition

Research Matters - 3 Minute Thesis Faculty Final

Julia Gilmartin shows us how easy it is ...  in just 3 minutes.

13 contestants presented compelling speeches on their thesis topic with the aid of 1 slide in just 3 minutes!

The four judges were given the difficult job of scoring the contestants on the following criteria:
Communication style: was the thesis topic and its significance communicated in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience?
Comprehension: did the presentation help the audience understand the research?
Engagement: did the oration make the audience want to know more?

It was a very close competition with the top 3 competitors being:
First place: Julia Gilmartin: A review of dose administration aids: improving medicine management
Second place: Briana Davie:Understanding allosteric modulation of GPCRs
Audience vote: Jeremy Shonberg: The synthesis of bivalent and bitopic ligands targeting the dopamine receptor

Julia Gilmartin represented the faculty and competed in the Monash University 3MT final. Julia was awarded first runner up for 2011 by the judging panel of Vice Chancellor Professor Ed Byrne, Professor Kim Langfield-Smith from the Faculty of Business and Economics and Professor Graeme Davison from the Faculty of Arts.
