Student Ambassador Program

The student ambassador program offers a host of opportunities for skill and career development, which can allow you to stand out to future employers.  Student ambassadors will also have the chance to to represent and promote the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at a variety of future student, current student, alumni and industry events.

Ambassador responsibilities

As a student ambassador you will be called upon to share your university experiences with future students, alumni and donors. You may be asked to speak or MC at an event, participate in events such as Open Day, future student information evenings and Victorian College of Pharmacy Foundation retired Pharmacists group meetings. 

Ambassadors will also contribute regularly the faculty’s “Ask a student” blog.

Most importantly Ambassadors will act as quality representatives for the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and strive to positively promote it.

Students failing to meet the requirements of the program may have their position terminated.

Time commitments

Student ambassador duties will be conducted outside of class time and ambassadors will not be expected or encouraged to miss any classes. Student ambassadors will be expected to: 

  • Attend the training workshops as outlined above
  • Assist with at least three faculty or alumni events each semester 
  • Contribute once a month to the “Ask a student blog”.

Ambassadors are expected to attend:

  • At Monash 12/05/09
  • Open Day 01/08/09
  • Undergraduate information evening 10/09/09
  • Chemistry Challenge 30/09/09and 01/10/09
  • Ambassador End of year function 24/11/09

Ambassadors will also be expected to attend some of the following:

  • Retired Pharmacists group 28/4/09
  • Careers Week 20-24/04/09
  • The Age VCE and Careers Expo 24-26/04/09
  • Retired Pharmacists group 26/05/09
  • Retired Pharmacists group 30/06/09
  • Retired Pharmacists group 28/07/09
  • Retired Pharmacists group 25/08/09
  • Retired Pharmacists group 29/09/09
  • Retired Pharmacists group 27/10/09

Student ambassadors hold their position for one year and may be required to assist with enrolment day in late February.

Senior ambassador

Senior ambassador positions are open to students who have participated in the Ambassador program in the past.  

In addition to the representative role fulfilled by Ambassadors, Senior ambassadors will be required to work together on a project that connects:

  • students to students
  • students to the faculty
  • the faculty to the community

Senior Ambassadors will also have access to the Ambassadors benefits, including the training outlined in the above table.

Who can apply?

All undergraduate students who have teaching hours at Monash University Parkville campus are eligible to apply. Ambassadors will be selected to represent the Bachelors of Pharmaceutical Science or Engineering/Pharmaceutical Science and the Bachelors of Pharmacy or Pharmacy/Commerce.

Students who have previously been Ambassadors can apply for the Senior Ambassador program.

Applications

Approximately ten students will be admitted into the Student Ambassador Program in 2009.

Applicants may be required to undertake a 'Working with Children' check.

Applicants should have the capacity to promote the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, have a credit average and be able to demonstrate skills in the following areas:

• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills suitable for working with committees and people at all levels within the university and student body

• Demonstrated organisational and time-management skills

• Demonstrated involvement with and contribution to Monash University, your school or local community

• Involvement in extra curricula activities including but not limited to sport, theatre, dance, music, scouts etc

Applicants will be required to submit a CV and a cover letter addressing the key selection criteria outlined in the position description .

Selection will be based on a combination of applications and group interviews.

Applications for the 2009 Student Ambassador Program will close at 4.00pm on 2 April, 2009.

All successful applications will be required to attend the induction and Future Leaders Program from 9.30 - 5.00pm on the 16 and 17 April at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
