Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences ResearchPharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamicsPharmacokinetics is the study of the time course of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion, these being the processes that determine the concentrations in various regions of the body after drug administration. Pharmacodynamics is the relationship between the concentration of the drug at the site(s) of action and the magnitude of the effects produced. Pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic studies are required during drug development and to optimise the clinical use of existing drugs. The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has substantial experience in the conduct of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies on anti-infective agents and other drugs, in both preclinical models and patients.
