Leaving a bequest to the faculty

By making a bequest to the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, you are leaving a legacy that will make a difference for many generations to come. Over the past 125 years, bequests have provided funding for teaching and research, library resources and to establish student scholarships, bursaries and prizes.

There are many ways to structure your bequest. General or unspecified support allows the faculty to respond quickly to the needs of the pharmacy profession and the pharmaceutical industry. Alternatively, the Foundation can help you match your bequest with a particular area of interest.

Examples of how you might leave a bequest to the faculty are:

  • designating a percentage or proportion of your estate
  • establishing a permanent fund, or capital endowment, to be invested by the faculty to provide an income stream
  • bequeathing a specific amount of money, real estate, shares, artwork or other property.

It is recommended that you seek independant legal advice in making or amending your will.

Some well known examples of legacies to the faculty created by bequests are the H.T. Tompsitt Memorial Scholarships, the Max Pincus Scholarship, the Harry Shillinglaw Scholarship and the Cyril Tonkin Scholarship.

Suggested wording for bequests

The following wording is suggested in the preparation of a Will that includes a bequest to the faculty:

“I give to the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Monash University the sum of …………………… dollars free of all duties to be applied for the purposes of the University either in such manner as the Victorian College of Pharmacy Foundation Board may determine or in the following manner (here specify the manner of application as discussed and agreed with the faculty) and I direct that the receipt of the proper officer of the University shall be a sufficient discharge to my trustee(s) for payment of that sum.”

Recognition

Please discuss with us how the Foundation can best recognise your gift, in your name or that of a loved one. If you would prefer, your anonymity will also be respected.Unless they request otherwise, benefactors will receive occasional invitations to events and will be kept informed of faculty developments.
