Pharmacy education technology showcase

The use of innovative technology to support competency-based teaching and learning in pharmacy

New to the program in 2009, this technology showcase initiative will allow registrants interactive access to novel developments that are being used to creatively respond to educational needs. This showcase will challenge attendees to think outside the square!

The showcase will be a collaborative sharing and display of innovations, designed to inspire new thought in the use of technologies (eg online worlds, virtual patients, patient databases, audience response systems) to meet learning outcomes.

Highlights include:

Monday 6 July
Education technology showcase
3 – 4pm               The showcase will initially open as an option alongside the workshops.
4 – 7pm               The showcase continues with a
hands-on chance for all registrants to experience and explore various innovations currently used for pharmacy education globally. Includes drinks and informal discussion between 6 and 7pm.

Tuesday 7 July
2 – 3pm                Pharmatopia annual meeting
For Pharmatopia group members only:
The Pharmatopia group, a consortium of ten universities from around the world, are collaborating to share pharmacy education resources on the Second Life island of Pharmatopia
3.30 – 4.30pm        Education technology workshop
Ensuring real learning outcomes from new education technologies.
This practical session will tease out hurdles to implementing and using new technologies: accessibility, impact on competency, cost, collaboration, learning outcomes and evaluation.

Technological innovations will also be integrated into the general Symposium program where possible.

If you are attending the Symposium and are actively involved in pharmacy education, we invite you to include your own technology innovation in the showcase. Please contact Marian Costelloe to discuss the specifics of your technology’s role and set up. A table and poster board will be available for each display – please bring your own laptop and other necessary requirements.
