Modern curricula in pharmacy and pharmaceutical scienceThe development of all our curricula is informed by our research, our contemporary view of the future, and our national and international professional experiences. Within Australian pharmacy and pharmaceutical science education, our courses are unique as they are 100% purpose-designed, customised and coordinated by our academic staff. Our faculty is uniquely positioned to provide these educational opportunities due to our quality academic staff and our breadth of scientific and pharmacy practice expertise. Major changes have occurred in the way we educate our undergraduate pharmacy students. The Bachelor of Pharmacy curriculum has been transformed by a rigorous two-year review and redevelopment process and the new course will be delivered to first and second year students in 2009. The new curriculum features an integrated approach to delivery across disciplines and training in essential professional and generic skills and attitudes that are embedded and holistically assessed through an innovative approach to teaching and learning. Graduates will be optimally equipped to deliver first rate pharmaceutical and healthcare to the Australian community. Visionary technologies, new teaching spaces and techniques, and the development of a new context for teaching through the Pharmville 3052 project will support delivery of the new curriculum. This will ensure that our students and graduates have the requisite pharmacy knowledge base and skills to confidently manage patients and contribute to the leadership of our profession. Course advisory and stakeholder groups, representing all facets of the profession, have assisted in the redevelopment of the curriculum. This collaborative process ensures the curriculum’s relevancy to our profession now and into the future. |
