Course structure

The Monash University Pharmacy Internship program comprises two postgraduate units, Applied pharmacy practice I and Applied pharmacy practice II (a total of 12 points). These units run back-to-back, commencing in late January and finishing around the end of September.

Interns who complete the Monash University Pharmacy Internship program are half way toward earning a postgraduate qualification - the Graduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice.  Completion of 12 additional points of electives will earn you the Graduate Certificate.  Students can choose to exit the Graduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or articulate to the Master of  Pharmacy Practice, if satisfactory marks are achieved.

The elective units are optional. You do not need to complete these to satisfy the Pharmacy Board’s requirements for initial registration.

The elective units can be completed during the internship year or they may be completed the following year.

Course delivery mode

The Pharmacy Internship program is delivered using a variety of modes including traditional face-to-face teaching and small-group workshops as well as computer-assisted methods.

The computer-assisted aspects of the program allow for great flexibility in that participants can access these at any time and from any location with internet access. This allows interns to fit these activities in with their work and other commitments.

Participants have access to Monash University computer resources for their access to electronic learning materials, e-mail, discussion groups, online journals and databases (eg. Micromedex), and other Monash services.

Elective units are delivered by off campus learning. Most units require no attendance at the University.

Quotes

“I found the online discussions extremely useful.  Multiple people contributing to a topic allows for a broader knowledge base and helps fill in any gaps that may exist.  They are also useful being a rural student, as it can be done in my own chosen time.” – Susan Eddy, Pre registrant 2007

“The opportunity to complete a postgraduate qualification most definitely attracted me to the Monash pre-reg program.  The electives are a way to try out an area of study which I may be interested in pursuing further in my career as a pharmacist.” – Verna Wan, Pre registrant 2007
