Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science

Pharmaceutical sciences is the science of medicines. It plays a core role in improving human health and wellbeing: by researching and developing reliable, accessible and effective treatments for patients.

This degree is a job ready science degree which will equip you with the necessary skills to work in industry or research. The world is always going to need good scientists.

It has two unique specialty areas – formulation science and medicinal chemistry. During the first year of your course, you will gain a broad understanding of each area before selecting a specialisation in second year. Read more about the course structure and practical experience.

Formulation science

If you specialise in formulation science, you will learn how to formulate, design and evaluate pharmaceuticals. The formulation science and chemistry knowledge our graduates gain also means they are ideally suited to exciting careers developing, cosmetics, foods, agricultural chemicals, veterinary products, paints and inks and many such consumer goods.

Medicinal chemistry

Medicinal chemistry is at the intersection of biology and chemistry. It is specialised chemistry that deals with how drugs work, how drugs are designed and how drugs are made. Our graduates gain a broad range of these skills, which traverse the full range of the drug development cycle and open up industrial, academic and commercial career paths.
