Pharmacy Management Program - professional track unitsPharmacy Practice and Planning (VCD1101)Rationale:The knowledge of pharmacy practice requirements, planning and design is fundamental to any individual who wish to pursue a career in management of a pharmacy or a pharmacy related business. This unit provides a conceptual framework for the planning and design of a pharmacy and pharmacy operating procedures, with consideration to the consumer, legal and professional requirements. It examines the operational designs utilising the resources and systems available. The physical layout for optimal delivery of goods and services by the pharmacy will be investigated. The module is designed to challenge participants to draw on their personal experience, integrate with the knowledge learnt from the course material, and apply it to their day-to-day practice. Participants with significant senior pharmacy management experience may already be familiar with challenges presented. These participants should take the opportunity to revise the information provided, and to evaluate the outcome of their prior experience on the subject matter. The unit is divided into three topics. Topic 1: Pharmacy Practice Requirements This topic deals with the key issues surrounding the management of a pharmacy practice. It provides a comprehensive outline of the legislative and professional requirements in managing a practice which provides pharmacy goods and services. Topic 2: Operations Management for Pharmacy This topic provides a range of practical operational tools commonly required in the management of a pharmacy business. It also gives an overview of quality and discusses its impact on operations. Topic 3: Planning and Designing a Pharmacy This topic offers participants an opportunity to conduct a planning and design project within a team setting. It covers the key steps of project scoping, design, specification writing and tender documentation. For unit offering details refer to the Postgraduate Handbook.
