Pharmacy Management Program - Professional track unitsPharmaceutical Economics (ECX9710)Rationale:Together with the unit Introduction to Health Economics, these two units are of particular value for professional leaders, senior pharmacy managers, policy makers and individuals who wish to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, sound economical knowledge in pharmaceuticals is important for clinical practitioners to consider when making therapeutic choice, allowing maximisation of health outcome from the limited resources available. The subject provides an economic analysis of the pharmaceutical industry and pharmaceutical products. It considers the structure of the industry and the inter-relationship between the nature of the product, the market structure and government regulation. It considers different regulatory regimes from an economic perspective and the role of economic evaluation in promoting an efficient use of drugs.
