Professional Experience Placement (PEP) Program

The faculty places a strong emphasis on the practical elements of the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree, all students studying pharmacy at Monash participate in the Professional Experience Placement (PEP)program.

The major objective of the PEP program is for students to develop specific skills in the areas of clinical pharmacy, problem solving, medication history taking, patient counselling and therapeutic planning, and an appreciation of the role of pharmacists in health care teams.

The placements are organised by Monash University. Student complete four, three-week placements.  The placements are timetabled to occur during semester periods and also in February during the summer break.

Students are required to complete four placements over third and fourth year:

  • Rural pharmacy
  • Hospital pharmacy (two placements occur in a hospital setting)
  • Community pharmacy

Students also have the opportunity to apply to complete one placement overseas via the Pharmacy Abroad program.

Students are required to adhere to the Ethics and Code of Practice for Clinical Placements.
